Booking and cancellation policy
What's the cancellation policy for stays under 28 nights?
Cancel at least 30 days before check-in for a full refund. Cancel between 7 and 30 days before check-in for a 50% refund. If you cancel less than 7 days before check-in, or after check-in, the stay isn't refunded. You can also cancel within 24 hours of booking for a full refund, as long as you booked at least 7 days before check-in. Refunds go back to the card you paid with. Mountain Passes added to a booking can be refunded if you cancel them at least 7 days before check-in, or within 24 hours of ordering.
What's the cancellation policy for stays of 28 nights or more?
Cancel within 48 hours of booking for a full refund, as long as check-in is at least 28 days away. After that, the next 30 nights of the stay aren't refunded, and any nights beyond those are. If you cancel after check-in, the stay isn't refunded.
How do I pay?
You pay the full amount by card when you book, on Stripe's secure checkout page. Your booking is confirmed as soon as the payment goes through, and a confirmation email follows.
What are check-in and checkout times?
Check-in is from 3:00 pm and checkout is by 10:00 am. Check-in is self-service: you'll get a PIN code for the door.
Is there a minimum stay?
Minimum stays vary by date, and the calendar above follows them: once you pick a check-in date, only the checkout dates that meet the minimum stay can be chosen.
Can we bring pets or smoke?
Sorry, pets aren't allowed, and both lodges are completely non-smoking.
Booking FAQ
How many people can stay?
Each lodge takes 1 to 7 guests, and we recommend up to 5 guests for comfort; a sixth and seventh guest sleep on futon mattresses. For bigger groups, book both lodges — each has its own entrance.
Are you open all year?
Yes, we're open all year. In winter the season follows the resort: for 2026–27, stays can start from 10 December, before the lifts open on 12 December. From spring to autumn, Madarao is great for hiking, cycling and Lake Nojiri.
Is it good for kids?
Yes. There are futons as well as beds, and you can cook your own meals in the kitchen. With a washing machine and dryer you can pack fewer clothes, and the resort has kids' zones too.
Can we do laundry?
Yes. Each lodge has a washing machine and a dryer, so you can pack light.
How do we get there?
Bullet train from Tokyo to Iiyama Station (about 1 hour 40 minutes), then a taxi or the bus to Plaza Mae, a minute's walk from the lodge. By car, the nearest exit is the Toyota-Iiyama IC on the Joshin-etsu Expressway. See the Contact page for full directions.
Is it ski-in/ski-out?
No, but it's a short walk: the resort (Madarao Mountain Resort's base) is a 4-minute walk from the lodge.
Can I ask a question before booking?
Of course. We speak English and Japanese. Send us a message through the contact form, email info@tombilodge.co.jp or call +81 80 7703 7698.
Can I add ski passes?
Yes. If your stay is in the ski season, you can add Mountain Passes as you book.
